Young Roots: Heritage Lottery Fund

Aims of Fund

To involve 13-25 year-olds in finding out about their local and cultural heritage.

Who can apply

Youth organisations that are working with a 'heritage partner' to deliver the project (e.g. your local wildlife trust or museum). The young people ages 13-25 must take part in developing and delivering the project.

How much and what can you apply for

You can apply for £3,000 to £25,000 for a project that will last up to 18 months.

Projects must relate to the varied heritage of the UK and:

  • provide new opportunities for a wider range of young people aged 13 to 25 to learn about their own and others’ heritage;
  • allow young people to lead and take part in creative and engaging activities;
  • develop partnerships between youth organisations and heritage organisations; and
  • create opportunities to celebrate young people’s achievements in the project and share their learning with the wider community.

Your project must also create either:

  • opportunities for young people to volunteer in heritage; or
  • new opportunities for young people to gain skills in identifying, recording, interpreting or caring for heritage.

How to apply

You fill in a pre-application form online. You will be contacted by the South East Office within 10 days. They will assist with your application and you will then need to complete a full application form.
