Brighton & Hove Council: Community Festivals Grant

Aims of Fund

To fund festivals in local neighbourhoods or that celebrate the diversity of local communities of interest & identity

The council has prioritised provision of “cultural opportunities for all”. Grants to Community Festivals will support events that promote participation in cultural activities, expanding ‘life chances’, improving health & enabling people to share in the city’s life.

Who can apply

Organisations that specifically manage the delivery of a local festival, for example, a Community Festival Group, or by organisations that manage the delivery of other services as well as a festival, such as a Community Association

How much and what can you apply for

Examples of past grants and for what use if available

Grants of up to £1,500 are available and it is intended that they will support the celebration of life in local communities through grants to:

  1. Local neighbourhood festivals such as:

    • Hangleton and Knoll Community Festival
    • Kemptown Carnival
    • Friends of William Clark Park
    • Brunswick Community Festival
  2. Festivals that celebrate the diversity of local communities of interest for example:
    • Refugee Week
    • Navratri
    • International Women's Day
    • Poets Corner Multicultural Festival
    • Chinese New Year

Total anticipated budget for 2012-13: Approx £40,000

Community Festival Awards are not granted to occasional events such as musical performances or art exhibitions.

Organisations that want to participate in Pride 2012 should apply to the Pride Community Chest.

Deadlines for application

2012-13 Deadlines: 29 February 2012, 18 May 2012, 10 August 2012, 09 November 2012.

Applications that miss the deadline will automatically be transferred to the next round. It takes 6-8 weeks to receive a decision on your application. Please allow sufficient time to plan your proposed activity. Awards should be spent before 31st March 2012.
