Biffaward: Landfill Tax Credit Scheme

Aims of Fund

The Biffaward Small Grants Scheme has been established to enable groups to quickly access lower levels of funding in order to improve the quality of life in their community.

Who can apply

Any not-for-profit community led organisation with its own bank account.

Your project must be within 10 miles of a Biffa operation (there are depots in Worthing and Burgess Hill, both of which are within 10 miles of central Brighton).

How much and what can you apply for

There are currently three different schemes that you can apply for:

  • Small grants of £250 to £5,000 for projects that enable communities to improve local amenities and to conserve wildlife
  • Main grants (community) of £5,000 to £50,000 for projects that provide and improve community facilities.
  • Main grants (biodiversity) of £5,000 to £50,000 for projects that conserve wildlife species and habitats.

If you are applying for a main grant, you will need to find a third party contributor(s) to provide 10% of the grant you are applying for.

How to apply and deadlines

Small grants

Download a Small Grants Scheme application form from the website. Applications are assessed by a panel that meets every 8 weeks.

Main grants

Download an 'Expression of Interest' form from the website and send it in. You will hear from them within 3 weeks, after which you may be asked to submit a full applicaiton. Applications are considered every 3 months.

Other information

The Landfill Tax Credit Scheme was established to lessen the effects of landfill activities on local communities. Funding is awarded to projects within a 10 miles radius of any eligible landfill site. The scheme is run by many different 'Distributive Environmental Bodies', of which Biffaward is just one. To find details of other bodies that administer the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme in your area go to www.entrust.org.uk/home/lcf/funders-directory
