Tudor Trust
Aims of Fund
"The Tudor Trust is a charitable trust which supports people and organisations working to achieve lasting change in their communities. Our role is to enable their visions, trusting the groups we fund to do the work that is needed."
Who can apply
They fund smaller under-resourced organisations which offer direct services and which involve the people they work with in their planning. They aim to fund effective people who work to high standards
They will not fund:
- statutory bodies
- hospitals, hospices and health authorities
- universities, schools, colleges or organisations working primarily with children under 5 yrs.
- organisations working primarily in the field of physical or learning disabilities, physical illness or sensory impairment.
- animal charities
- scouts, guides and uniformed youth groups
- museums, entertainment venues, sports or leisure clubs
- larger charities with a turnover of over £1million or with existing widespread support.
How much and what can you apply for
Examples of past grants and for what use if available
Tudor Trust consider applications for core costs, development costs, project costs, building and equipment costs, and any other costs crucial to your work.
There is no limit of how much you can apply for, or over how many years your funding should run. They make around 340 grants per year which range from a few hundred pounds to around £150,000.
They aim to be flexible, and respond to ideas generated by local groups, rather than groups having to fit a list of set criteria. However, they are looking for:
- Organisations which are embedded in and have developed out of their community
- Organisations providing direct services to marginalised people
- A focus on building stronger communities
- High levels of user involvement
- Organisations and people who know what difference they want to make and have the energy and vision to make it happen
Awards made in the South East under the new guidelines:
- £71,000 to Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project for a creative wellbeing project
- £10,000 to the Children's Clinic at Dolphin House offering low-cost complementary therapies
- £90,000 over three years to Friends, Families and Travellers towards their core costs
- £30,000 to Mankind UK for three years support for men in the South East who have been victims of rape and domestic abuse
- £37,500 over 2 years to Oasis counselling centre towards the salary of a business manager in their counselling centre in Kent
- £90,000 over 3 years to the Women's Support Service towards the salary of an independent domestic violence advisor for black and ethnic minority women in Kent
How to apply
You will need a copy of their guidelines, that are on their website. They have a two stage application process. For the first stage you will need to send a one page letter, which answers the questions listed in their guidelines, plus an 'organisations details sheets' (again this is just one side and is in their guidelines), and a copy of your last year's accounts and annual report if you have one.
They will let you know within a month whether you will be invited to submit a full application. About 1 out every 10 first stage applications will be asked to submit a full application.
They aim to tell you whether your second stage application has been successful within 3 months. You should therefore expect the whole process to take at least 5 months.
Deadlines for application
There are no deadlines. All applications are assessed on a rolling programme.
