To support the development and delivery of grassroots sporting opportunities in England and help local communities increase access to sport or to improve the experience of people playing sport.

Who can apply

How much and what can you apply for

Examples of past grants and for what use if available

You can apply for £300 to £10,000 for projects that have a total value of less than £50,000, and can be completed within a year.

Current priorities are:

  • Projects increasing the number of adults participating in moderate intensity sports: Sport England has a target of getting 1 million more adults participating in 3 x 30 minutes of moderate intensity sport per week by 2012.
  • Projects seeking to reduce the drop off rates for 16-19 year olds, in particular the following sports - Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Gymnastics, Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union, and Tennis. Research shows that large numbers of young people stop playing sport at this age.

Your application can include capital equipment, such as kits, and the costs of running a project such as venue hire, transport, volunteer expenses.
