Free surgeries on employment law - 20th May
ProHelp has free surgeries on employment law to offer with an expert in the field.
This FREE tailored surgery on employment law and HR assistance is available on Wed 20th May 2009, two 1 hour sessions are available: 4pm-5pm and 5pm - 6pm

A £25 cancellation fee will be charged if 48 hours notice of cancellation is not given.
ProHelp is a national network of over 1,000 professional companies, and is the largest provider of free professional support to local communities. Member organisations provide £6m worth of free support each year which is delivered through 40 local groups.
In Brighton & Hove the ProHelp programme is managed by BCP. BCP acts as a 'broker' and matches the needs of the community organisation with a professional firm that has offered their support. ProHelp provides a simple and effective way of ensuring that support goes to where it's most needed, by bringing together businesses, social enterprises and the third sector

Grants of up to £3000 from 'Help a Local Child'
Southern FM’s charity, Help a Local Child was launched in 2003 with a commitment to helping Sussex children and young people up to the age of 18 who experience the negative effects of poverty, abuse, neglect, homelessness, violence, crime, illness and disability
Their annual funding round is now open. If you want to apply you need to request and application form by 30th May 09 and return it to them by 15th June

V Project - Share in £50,000
For the third year in a row Southern FM has got £50,000 to give to community organisations in Sussex that come up with new volunteering opportunities for young people.
We’ve once again joined up with V, the youth volunteering charity to fund new projects.
We want to hear from organisations that have innovative projects that will create new volunteering schemes.

Grassroots grants now open to groups with an annual income below £30,000
Local community groups that have been working in the community for at least a year, and have an annual income of below £30,000, can apply for up to £5000 from Grassroots Grants.

Parks for People fund relaunched by Heritage Lottery Fund
Parks for People offers grants of between £250,000 and £5 million for projects involving urban or rural green spaces designed for informal recreation and enjoyment.
It has just been relaunched and new application details will be available on the website from 18th December 08.
The definition of a park for this programme is:
- an existing designed urban or rural green space, the main purpose of which is for informal recreation and enjoyment.
- It includes parks, gardens, squares, walks and promenades.
- the community values the park as part of their heritage;
- the parks meets local social, economic and environmental needs;
- and the park actively involves local people.
The five outcomes for proposed project are:
- Increasing the range of audiences
- Conserving and improving the heritage value
- Increasing the range of volunteers involved
- Increasing knowledge and skills
- Improving management and maintenance

Equalities Networking Event 11th Dec Jubilee Learning Centre, Library 5.30-7.30
Are you part of a community organisation that deals with issues of inequality?
Would you like to raise awareness of your organisation's work?
Could you help other groups better understand your community?
Do you have an interest in equality and diversity training?
The first meeting of the Equalities Network will be held on the Thursday 11th December, Jubilee Library Learning Centre, 5.30-7.30pm, Food and drinks provided.
Dietary requirement and access needs can be arranged if notified at least a week in advance.
Benefits of Getting Involved include:
- Strengthen your group's understanding of equality and diversity issues
- Raise awareness of the issues that matter to your community
- Work with others to effect change - influence local decision makers
- Work collaboratively and seek funding solutions
This meeting will be accessible and informal, you do not need to have advanced knowledge of the above issues in order to participate. We especially welcome new organizations and smaller groups who may not have previously attending CVSF events. If you are aware of any individuals or groups who may be interested in this event, I would appreciate if you could pass this invitation to them.
Your voice and experience tells this story and open routes to dialogue and awareness raising. Come and join the discussions and see what you could do to help make a change.

Wed 3rd Dec: International Day of Disabled Persons
A Day for Celebration, a Day for Action
Wednesday, 3rd December marks this year's annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons. The theme of this year's day is "Dignity and Justice for All of Us".
The Federation of Disabled People is working in partnership with Brighton & Hove Council and the local Primary Care Trust to celebrate the day. An extensive programme of activities is planned, including conversation tables, independent living workshops and information stalls run by our member organisations. The International day will also feature the federation's AGM and the launch of our innovative Accessible City Guide.
Entertainment for the day will include a talk by Alison Lapper (the disabled artist, writer and model best known as the subject of the fourth plinth sculpture in Trafalgar Square). Also confirmed for the day are the group of disabled and non-disabled comics "Abnormally Funny People" as well as the Carousel band Beat Express!
The full programme for the day is as follows:
2.00 - 4.00pm Come and join in the conversation tables on independent living, browse around the information stalls and visit the relaxation area.
4.00pm Join us for refreshments.
4.15 - 4.30pm The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn will open the Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Disabled People. This will be followed by a short address from Councillor Dee Simpson, Council Cabinet Member for Community Affairs, Inclusion and Internal Relations.
4.30 - 5.30pm Join us for the Federation of Disabled People's AGM and the launch of our innovative new project, Accessible City Guide. Learn what the Federation has achieved over the last year and our plans for their future.
5.30 - 6.00pm We are delighted to have local artist and writer Alison Lapper talking to us about her life.
6.00 - 6.30pm Join us for refreshments with a festive theme.
6.30 - 8.00pm Enjoy the evening's entertainment: A musical performance by local Carousel rock band Beat Express. Comedy from Abnormally Funny People, a group of gifted stand-up comedians strutting their funny stuff. They are all very, very, very funny people!
