Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Training

How can you make sure that your organisation and activities are open and inclusive for all members of the community?  This course, run by Community Works  and led by  Jess Taylor from The Equality Academy provides an overview of equality, diversity and inclusion, flags up key legislation, and looks at what this means for planning and delivering your activities.

Course fees are £50 for organisations which are members of Community Works and have an annual income under £250,000. Some bursary places are available to groups with an income of less than £35,000 per annum.

Understanding Community Interpreting Level 1

The WEA have spaces available on their course: Award in Understanding Community Interpreting Level 1

This qualification offers the opportunity for students who are speakers of other languages to learn about the role of the community interpreter. You will learn about the language skills required when working in the community – giving an awareness of how language changes depending on the situation. There is also an opportunity to look at how public and voluntary service sectors work in the community.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need to talk to a member of WEA staff and do a short activity to make sure the course is right for you. For more information and to book an appointment please call 07500 972664
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course
  • You should be a confident speaker of English and be fluent in at least one other language

  • recognise the media’s agenda
  • understand techniques for dealing with different styles of media
  • communicate effectively with each type of media

Community Works: Governance briefing – being a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)

Governance Briefings are open to all community and voluntary organisations across Adur and Worthing, Brighton and Hove. They are a great opportunity to keep up to date with local and national legislation, develop your governance practice and network with other Trustees.
