Who can apply

For local community groups and charitable organisations.

How much and what can you apply for

How much you get depends on a public voting system, through people using the green tokens to vote for their favourite project in the supermarket. Once the project is accepted by Waitrose Community Matters team, the project with the most votes receives £1,500, while the second and third receive £1,000 and £500 respectively.

Your project should meet one of four different criteria:

  • Tackle food poverty (e.g. food banks, community kitchens)
  • Counter social isolation and foster connection. Projects can range from shared garden projects and community cooking classes, to regular lunch clubs for seniors, or other spaces where friendships can blossom over delicious food.
  • Empower healthier lifestyles through education around nutritious cooking. They can fund education and the equipment needed to cook nutritious food on any budget.
  • Initiatives that tackle food waste, reduce pollution and foster deeper connection with where our food comes from
