Whitehawk Pride in Place Community Grants Programme

Grants available for:   Local voluntary groups or registered charities active in Whitehawk

Size of grants given:

Community Pride Micro-Grants of up to £1,000 for community-led projects and activities.

Capital Improvement Grants of up to £10,000 for physical improvements to community assets and spaces.

Aims of Fund

The Whitehawk Pride in Place Quick Wins Programme provides grant funding for projects that strengthen community pride, improve neighbourhood spaces and support activities that bring local people together.

The programme has been developed to help deliver visible improvements in Whitehawk while supporting the wider ambitions of the Whitehawk Pride in Place initiative and the emerging neighbourhood vision. Funding is available for projects that can demonstrate clear community benefit and can be delivered within the programme timescales.

  • Community and voluntary groups
  • Registered charities
  • Schools and educational organisations
  • Social enterprises
  • Faith organisations
  • Community interest companies
  • Local businesses where there is a clear community benefit

Partnership applications are encouraged where organisations are working together to deliver shared outcomes.

How much and what can you apply for

Two funding streams are available.

Community Pride Micro-Grants

Grants of up to £1,000

The Community Pride Micro-Grants Fund supports small-scale projects that encourage community participation, celebrate local pride and improve the neighbourhood.

Examples include:

  • Community events and activities
  • Community planting and greening projects
  • Community clean-up initiatives
  • Arts, culture and heritage activities
  • Equipment for community groups
  • Resident-led improvement projects
  • Activities that strengthen community connections

The total budget available for this fund is £20,000.

 

Capital Improvement Grants

Grants of up to £10,000

The Capital Improvement Grants Fund supports physical improvements to community assets and public spaces that provide a lasting benefit to local residents.

Examples include:

  • Improvements to community buildings
  • Community gardens and growing spaces
  • Outdoor seating and landscaping
  • Small-scale public realm improvements
  • Recreational and play facilities
  • Projects that improve accessibility
  • Improvements to spaces used by the community

The total budget available for this fund is £100,000.

What We Will Not Normally Fund

The programme will not normally support:

  • Retrospective funding for activities that have already taken place
  • Ongoing operational or staffing costs
  • Projects that primarily benefit an individual
  • Party political activities
  • Religious activities where the primary purpose is worship
  • Activities that are the responsibility of statutory services
  • Projects that cannot demonstrate community benefit
  • Projects that cannot be delivered within the programme period

How to apply

Application Process

Step 1: Expression of Interest

Anyone wishing to apply must first submit an Expression of Interest by emailing:

Please provide:

  • Applicant or organisation name
  • Contact details
  • Short description of your project idea
  • Indicative funding amount requested

Step 2: Application Invitation

Following receipt of your Expression of Interest, you will be sent:

Step 3: Submit Your Application

Applications can be submitted in either of the following formats:

Written Application

Complete and submit the application form.

Video Application

Applicants may choose to submit a short video instead of completing the narrative sections of the application form.

Videos should be no longer than five minutes and explain:

  • Your project idea
  • Why the project is needed
  • How residents will benefit
  • How the project will be delivered
  • How much funding is being requested

This option is provided to make the programme as accessible as possible.

 

Step 4: Assessment

Following the application deadline, council officers will undertake:

  • Eligibility checks
  • Financial and compliance checks
  • Technical assessments where necessary
  • Review against the published assessment criteria

Eligible applications will then be presented to the Whitehawk Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board.

Step 5: Funding Decisions

Funding decisions for both grant programmes will be made at a dedicated meeting of the Whitehawk Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board.

Decisions will be made by:

  • The full Neighbourhood Board; or
  • A quorate meeting of the Board convened for this purpose.

All applications will be considered after the closing date to ensure a fair and transparent assessment process.

Board members will declare any conflicts of interest and will not participate in decisions where a conflict exists.

 

Step 6: Grant Offer and Delivery

Successful applicants will receive:

  • A formal grant offer
  • Grant terms and conditions
  • Information on monitoring and reporting requirements

Projects should not begin until confirmation of funding has been received.
