Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) or Charitable Company

If you have charitable aims AND want to be incorporated, you need to set up an incorporated charity.

There are two different ways of doing this: you can set up a Charitable Company or a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

Either of these structures will allow you to be seen as a charity by law, and to limit the liability of your trustees. However, because you don’t have an open membership, you may find it difficult to attract grant funding.

We hope you find this page useful. Would you like to make a donation?

All Resource Centre information is available for free because we know small community groups have small budgets. However, we are a small charity, so if you are in a position to make a donation, it will help us to keep running this service into the future.
