Have a rethink

You have indicated that your organisation will be charitable, but that the people in charge will be paid.

In order to ensure that they are run for the public benefit, charities are generally run by unpaid volunteers, known as a management committee or board of trustees. There are exceptional circumstances in which a trustee may be paid for specific tasks, but new organisations intending to pay their management committee as a matter of course are likely to find it easier to set up as a non-charitable organisation.

If you need to be charitable (to attract certain grants, for example), your organisation will need to be overseen by a committee of volunteers. Paid staff can still do most of the day-to-day work of the organisation, but the volunteers will have overall control.

Your route so far:

Voting members? Yes. Charitable? Yes. Paid workers in charge? Yes

We hope you find this page useful. Would you like to make a donation?

All Resource Centre information is available for free because we know small community groups have small budgets. However, we are a small charity, so if you are in a position to make a donation, it will help us to keep running this service into the future.
