Better Brighton & Hove Fund

Grants available for:  Improvements to council-owned infrastructure in Brighton & Hove
Size of grants given:  Each ward has at least £22,000 to distribute
Next deadline: Ideas to be submitted by 14th December 2025, Voting between 5th and 30th January 2026

Aims of Fund

To improve life in neighbourhoods across the city, by inviting ideas from residents and community groups.

Who can apply

Individual residents of Brighton & Hove can suggest ideas, and can comment and vote on ideas other people have suggested.

Community organisations that use council-owned premises can also suggest ideas and submit a brief application form to apply for funding for their projects.

How much and what can you apply for

Each ward in the city has a fund of at least £22,000 to be spent during 2026. Some wards have additional funding, because there have been large developments in those areas, and the money for this scheme comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy – money that developers give to the council to pay for community improvements. The wards with additional funding are:

  • Brunswick and Adelaide – £22,466
  • Patcham and Hollingbury – £35,583
  • Rottingdean and West Saltdean – £87,110
  • West Hill and North Laine – £49,925
  • Westdene and Hove Park – £90,898
  • Wish – £76,125

Ideas are invited for improvements to council-owned land, buildings and community spaces. They suggest some examples on the website, but you can suggest anything you think would improve a local neighbourhood in Brighton & Hove.

How to apply

If you want to apply for funding for a project run by a local group in council-owned premises, you need to:

  • Download and complete the application form from the Better Brighton & Hove Fund page. The application form asks you to explain how your idea will benefit the local area, how it aligns with existing council plans, evidence of why your project is needed, the environmental impact of your project, how you will ensure fairness and equality in delivering the project, how much it will cost, and details of any other funding for the project.
  • Log in to your Your Voice account (or create an account if you don’t yet have one).
  • On the Better Brighton & Hove Fund project page, click on the map where your project will be located, then click the button to Submit Your Idea
  • Fill in the online form. This asks for the name of your idea and a description, the exact location and the ward it is in, an estimate of the cost
  • Say what kind of organisation you are, and upload your completed application form and supporting evidence (eg your constitution, permission to do the work requested, quotes for costs)

All residents of the city can log in and suggest their own ideas, and vote and comment on ideas that have been suggested by others.

Deadlines for application

Phase 1: Gathering ideas – ends on 14th December 2025

The ideas will then be shortlisted and there will be a second phase of voting, from 6th to 30th January 2026.
