Aims of Fund

To improve the lives of people and communities – particularly those facing disadvantage and marginalisation – through grantmaking.

Who can apply?

Registered charities or registered not for profit organisations with an annual income under £250,000

You must be able to demonstrate that at least 50% of service users benefiting from the capital project will fit within one or more of these programme areas:

  • Alcohol & Substance Misuse
  • Disadvantaged Minority Communities
  • Disadvantaged Young People
  • Domestic & Sexual Abuse
  • Homelessness
  • Older People
  • People with disabilities
  • Prisoners & Ex-Offenders
  • Visual Impairment

There are certain types of organisation and project that Clothworkers do not fund. These are listed on their website.

How much and what can you apply for?

They only fund capital costs. Capital costs are physical things or buildings. They include:

  • Buildings – purchase, construction, renovation, refurbishment, redecoration.
  • Equipment – office, sports, gym, furnishings, digital, camping, kitchen, furniture, garden, specialist therapeutic (but not purely medical).
  • Vehicles – for example minibus, car, caravan, people-carrier, 4X4.

They ask that you do not request a specific amount in your application form. This is because their trustees will take into consideration a number of factors when deciding the size of grant to award.

For larger projects (£100,000+), they generally fund 10% or more of the balance to be raised. For example, if your project cost was £200,000 and you had £150,000 left to raise, the grant award would be at least £15,000. The larger a project, the larger the grant is likely to be.

For smaller projects (with a balance of less than £10,000), they generally fund between 50% and 100% of the balance.
